Make an impact that will echo to the classroom, community and the world!
SELF ESTEEM is not something you learn easily. It's an evaluation of your self worth. It is meeting yourself in a valuable light, and transporting that light with you, especially through the darkness. Positive self esteem does not mean happiness. Your identiy, your strengths, your weaknessess, your physical self, and emotional self can all hinder your self esteem. There are so many layers to us and these layers are not permanent but ever-changing. Maintaining a helathy self-esteem is being aware of this and the potential of our resilience capability. Self-Esteem takes consistent work. Living the present moment assuring each step without comparing ourselves to others is imperative. Tapping into your Light, while remembering you are seeds is the fuel the heart and spirit needs. Positive self esteem is peace of mind, even if the most difficult times. It's truly believing in your self-worth and being compasionate with yourself.
WHAT WE DO TOGETHER:
-We do not compare each other
-Highlight the importance of saying, "areas of improvement" rather than "areas of weakness"
-Provide leadership, assistant, participant, and helping opportunities to all from youngest to oldest (Each role is a learning opportunity in regards to self-esteem).
-Remind them that the only way out is embracing the possibilites WITHIN the heart and mind!
-Model self-forgiveness and self-compassion.
-Invite guest speakers to talk about their journey in regards to self-evaluation, self esteem, and self love.
-Create love letters to ourselves and each other.
-Host workshops, activities or experiences accentuating the value of the human spirit, heart, and mind.
-Welcome their ideas and put them into practice!
-Model and encourage postive thinking.
-Host workshops surrounding a variety of ways to encourage productive venting and self-expression.
Rooted in the past but looking into the Future to establish equilibrium
We are not just an American story. There are existing layers of our American culture. Through westernized culture, we learn one story and very minimal about other cultures, traditions, and historical events that helped shape our world. Westernized culture, emphasizes how cultures are different, rather than how we can build relationships. At GEM we focus on the importance of preserving our Latin American and indigenous CULTURAL HERITAGE to guide our future, because we are not just one story. It's never too early to plant seeds and nurutue culture diplomacy.
WHAT WE DO TOGETHER:
-Revist the extraordinary stories, traditions and practices from Latin America and indigenous history that have been overlooked or forgotten.
-Collect and open dialogue about cultural memories and productive traditions from our immediate family.
-Discover and explore new music, visual arts, artistic disciplines, literature and personal narratives through education, workshops, field trips, guest speakers, and all forms of art.
-We invite graduates of Latin American Studies, and Spanish majors to teach historical events or figures that helped shaped the history of Latin America.
- We encourage each other and the girls to be positive culture producers themselves.
