Tesoro Verde is a seasonable program for girls ages 6 -17. Tesoro Verde is a journey back home to reclaim our ancestral connection to our Earth. Our objective is to ground us in a sacred relationship with the earth and build a future that is sustainable and beneficial for us all.
During the Pre-Columbian Era, our ancestors had a reciprocal relationship with the earth, that was both spiritual and fruitful. The daily meals were tied to a direct relationship with the earth. The rain, wind, and even the fire was necessary for harvest. All the elements of the earth were regarded as sacred and treated with reverence. These cultural practices fostered community and mind-body-spiritual connections that are necessary for our children to reclaim and learn.
The Seeds we plant have ancestral roots that can regenerate our environment. Tesoro Verde emphasizes on engaging the girls in the process of gardening/farming to develop autonomy and agency, while learning about the natural cycle of our ecosystem. Through these practices, we hope to foster an ancestral connection and a long-lasting connection with their own green spaces.
Through hands-on gardening/farming activities the girls will be given opportunities to connect with the earth. They will become part of the sacred process; the planning, cultivating, maintaining and harvesting. They will learn how to work together, share ideas, and join in communion during harvest. In addition, we will come together to have meaningful conversations about deforestation, rainforest conservation, and important recycling habits. They will be encouraged to write/draw about their learning and gardening activities, to have a more conscientious approach with an increased level of responsibility and sustainability for their environment and the food they eat.
